Amikam was born in Eretz Israel (Palestine) but happened to be in Hungary with his mother on the eve of WW II. His father was a dentist who worked in Angola and wanted his son to have a European education. In Eretz Israel (Palestine) he lived with his grandparents in Kfar Saba. When the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, he was a twelfth grade student at the Jewish high school and among the activists of “Hanoar Hatzioni” who operated in the underground. Amikam dealt mainly with the tiyul. He was caught and arrested by the Gestapo and incarcerated in the prison where the paratroopers from Eretz Israel (Palestine), Hanna Szenes, Joel Palgi and Peretz Goldstein, were being held. Amikam shared a cell with Peretz Goldstein. He was liberated in a daring operation of the Zionist underground on 25.12.1944. Amikam resumed his underground activities and dealt mainly with the release of prisoners, the distribution of forged documents and the establishment of children’s houses under the protection of the International Red Cross. After the liberation Amikam returned to Eretz Israel (Palestine), studied economics, held professional and public positions, served in the IDF, in the artillery and in the general headquarters as the head of the data center in the Operations Department. He was discharged with the rank of colonel. Amikam lived in Ramat Hasharon.
